THE AGE OF THE DEAD
...and the end of the era...

For an Eon of a Milenia did the Nightfire Phoenix chase the evil son of Argent, Darkest Oscuro. He who had blasphemied upon the universe, ran on in stock base primal fear. Fear of death, fear of the unknown -- Fear, unadulterated none the less, for he knew deep in his soul that not even a God could save him from his fate. The aura of angst outlieing the firebird behind him assured him of such. Around the planet did Oscuro fly in terror, and the planets core -- the arena of Souls, trembled under their aerial wake. Time bent, gravity shook, music and song -- meereset speech broke. Without speech and sound, for all which could be heard after the Phoenix's shrill cry was nill. A fleck of light, smaller then most, laid upon the crimson blackcoal skin of Nightfire's hide, which burned brighter then most one day, and grew, igniting each adjoining folicle. The Phoenix's cry shrilled louder, and the light eclipsed all else.

On that bright, beautiful morning on this one normal day, the Dark-son, Oscuro, was over taken in flight by the avain-sun, Nightfire. The universe plunged into blackness. All had been lost. Thoughts ceased, entire worlds died. Soul's evaporated into not even nothingness, for all was an absolute, nill, null, noda, nuka, saro.

No light, no sound, just the oozling suspicion of feeling evaporating.

Gods perished alongside mortals. Chaos and Order overthrew the great everything that ever was. The quarks decided it was time for an overdue vacation.

So long and thanks for all the fish, sianara, nice ta meet ya. Quarkly vacations end much sooner then coffee breaks -- for neither are eternal. That which is lost is often found again, unless of course its a left sock. SoulMUD is not a left sock, but a place of life, which will return again. It is the loss of the phoenix which must be reborn, sad but true.

Life begins with no sin's. A clean slate. Birth is grace. Sorry for the inconvience this downtime has rendered you.

Martyr's die. I suppose Phoeni are the ultimate martyr. All things die, from ants and anteaters, down to coral and sand, its the way the universe itself is built upon. Cycles of all else.

I also think universes dont like downtime with no life. For what else is the universe to do, but give life. People know this, quarks know this. Quarks in time often return. Games are meant to end, but people, like games (or maybe just people who like games) are meant to be changed by the universe as well.

Creators also do not like downtime with no life. It irk's us, bothers us, makes us grumpy, in the fact that our world which we had breathed life in, was no longer around. In the past I had always rested assured that the mud was up, even if I was on a quarkly vacation. That assurity is no longer with me, and it does bother me more then a bit. So even if the mud is not up (yet) I have still been coding away upon the MUD. Yes SoulMUD will return, I will not say how soon, but I will say it will return, and with many added new features.

We do not exist hopelessly. We cannot, as people do so. Ikarus could never reach the sun. But at least the motherfucker tried to do so. For without hope then there is no life, nor faith. Sometimes the good you do doesnt do you any good, but its still good to do.

The problem with both salvation and redemption, is that they may only be acheived after death, not before. This is a sad but true fact. This is the first time that SoulMUD has ever really been dead, and its not something that I like.

Expect good things the next time you connect to SoulMUD. For it can only remain dead for so long -- universal nessecity renders it as such, but the universe moves at its own speed, and all things happen in their own time. This is true, for all things, not just people, or MUD's, or people who like MUD's.
