This is, or will be SoulMUD at its simplest and primal. It does no good if it is not there, and it is there now, so it must be good. Accessible, free for all to see and play, it does no good sitting on a hard drive in bits of data that whirred in the night, forgotten, found wanting, lost to the future, something that was that couldnt be.

This is Soul cypher running like a fine, well tuned machine. Anubis tells me plato said we are all but shades in the shadow of our true form. After so long, when you see all the clutter that gets added to projects, and you stop and you look at the big picture, you see in the scope, its true ugliness, the horrid figures in their variety of colors, dressed in 1's and 0's, for all to see and gawk upon.

This soul traders, as it was meant to have been. This is a mud which has been toned down; a mud where a lot of useless stuff that had been added is now gone, because it is unimportant to the whole. This is a project which has but a simple scope, kill stuff, level, profit. A place of limited challenge, yet can still be challenging, is and still can be difficult, should a player want that. Yes it has a lot of rules, but understanding changes all of that, always has, always will.

This is a mud that tries to cater to a variety of people. As gamers, we each want something else out of what we play, where we spend our time. I myself, have played computer games since the amiga, commodore, apple, atari days (and fixing them, I can actually say I have over 20 years experience in fixing computers, and its 2010 - I feel old). Yet why is it, in this day and age, where we can do so much with computers and how we program, but I can not walk into a store, and find a good, original, game, to buy and play, to fall into. I can't.

I'm a hard act to please and a tougher act to follow. This place, this world, has seen thousands of people come and go over the years, it will continue to do so. My gripe, with the 'industry' in general, is Lasswell (go read on him). Its 2010, original movies are gone, replaced by hollywoods 36 point scripts, their comic books that entertained me in the 70's (I loved comics), are paraded around on the big screens and in our tvs. Funny, green lantern only needed a piece of paper, a ring and a motto to show up to me 25 years ago, now your paying how ever many hundreds of millions of dollars to do it on a screen.

Games. Why is it that there are little to no independent game studios; like everything else, they are gobbled up, devoured, lock, stock and barrel, crushed by a corporate crunching calculator. Good things, that could have been. Uo 2.0, duke nukem. Good things that are gone now, shadowbane, hellgate (what I wouldnt do for hellgate server code). Memories of the binary, holographic mind. Force fed expansions which cant end, or games with play times of under 20 hours total. Nothing pisses me off more then buying a game, and in 2-3 days time, its done, and I wonder to myself, what do I do now. It doesnt change when you play it through again (usually). Its the same tracks, maps, matches, opponents, quests, cut scenes.

Algorithms for music, marketing, and sales.

One day, I woke up, and said, I had a place where I was happy, I didnt have to pay for it, there wasnt in glitz, glammer and anti aliasing. There wasnt the need for some super high end graphics card that has more bells and whistles then a parade of london bobbies. It didnt require how every many million bytes of ram, or a great cpu for me to run it. I didnt have to pay a monthly fee which would withdraw from my debit system, recurring like, even if my account was empty, and disgruntle my checkbook and my wife.

Words. Text. Just letters, and numbers; in a stream. Now days, its almost a forgotten art. Writing, that of a story. I like to write short stories now days. But that world will always lead me back to this world. For me, they are one in the same.

I say to myself, welcome home old chap. Kell (8.7.2010)...

Below contains a lot of mumbo jumbo and gibberish. I was good at that back in the day.

(Creators Note) :)
We live in a gacious time friend, for only by the graces of all gods, does this or any universe exist. Its a direous time, of many dangers, but a world rich with adventure and riches. The road to glory is long, but time, what is time really, and if you read this, you must know and understand that time is only that, time and time again, its just that, time, and this world, like all worlds, all breaths will end, eventualy. But so much as there is heart in the warriors of Lights last breath, is there a chance that tomorrow will not be the last. Because that is Starfires lesson, faith and hope, transcend something as simple as time, and as the light shines, true things can never, ever die, for they are supposed to happen, only as time may allow them to happen, for mortals and the glory and the graces of the gods...the light will always shine, shine on...shine for all time, by the light of a soul. Just a simple soul, lost in the sands of time, but shining on, until the two worlds collide into the ashes of a sun and a moon... As long as any one person continues to beleive and have hope, then a thought or beleif or the simpliest dream can never die, for tomorrow never dies, as the sun always lights the moons dusking dawn. The Phoenix is always reborn from the ashes, each time continuing to rise higher each time. The lesson of the Phoenix is...

Cheerish the dead, for without them, we would be nothing but ashes in the sands of the desert of time. Cheerish your memories, for without them you would not have lived. Cheerish the life while you have it, for if you live each day as your last, you may say that you have lived before death. Honor the dead, as you do them honor by living.
